While Doug is “in charge” of Maine Children’s Entertainment, he is something of a figurehead, and routinely loses control of the puppets he claims to supervise. Doug (“Sir Douglas” during a performance) invested the initial funds to start the business ($1.63, found under the sofa cushions) and is certain that, under his direction, the company will go “from obscurity to oblivion”. He feeds, clothes and helps the puppets with their problems, and also maintains part-time employment at a pencil repair shop in Beans Corner.
